The 5th MRO Asia-Pacific Awards 2024 featuring Asia Aerospace Leadership Networking will take place on Monday, 23 September 2024 in Singapore.

Embracing the dynamic spirit of innovation within the aviation and aerospace sector, the MRO Asia Pacific Awards 2024 will pay tribute to pioneers across eight categories, each symbolizing a distinct pillar of excellence. At the awards ceremony, evening of 23 September, exceptional industry achievements will be honoured.

The 2023 event last year attracted diverse and influential attendees, with 76% holding key positions such as C-suite, VP, Director, GM, or Head of Department. The primary focus was on MRO (38%), followed by Aerospace (21%) and Air Transport (19%). This dynamic mix guarantees a vibrant and well-rounded networking experience. Norbert Marx
Senior Advisor
Lao Ma AG

Norbert Marx, has spent his entire professional life in different fields of aviation in the US, Europe and Asia, including more than 17 years in China. He has held CEO / General Manager positions at Lufthansa Technik Tulsa, Jet Aviation Basel and at GAMECO. GAMECO is a JV of China Southern Airlines and CK Hutchison Whampoa, with headquarter in Guangzhou China. With over 7’000 employees, GAMECO provides base-, line- and component MRO for today’s Airbus, Boeing and Comac aircraft.

After his retirement from GAMECO in November 2022, Marx continues to be engaged in senior advisor functions for various organizations, including CKHH/Hutchison Whampoa, InterCulture Co. Ltd and Lao Ma AG, Switzerland. Marx received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” issued by Aviation Week Network during MRO Asia-Pacific in September 2023. He is living in Zurich, Switzerland.

Mike Stengel
Principal Advisory

Mike has held a life-long passion for aerospace since starting flying lessons at the age of 12 and becoming a commercial pilot when he was 19. At the University of Michigan, Mike studied Aerospace Engineering and entered the world of consulting with an internship at AeroStrategy, followed by an introduction to engine overhauls and maintenance programs at United Airlines’ San Francisco maintenance base. He began his full-time career at ICF International’s aerospace practice before transitioning to AeroDynamic in 2017. Mike has led or contributed to over 100 consulting engagements focused on business strategy, market analysis, & transaction advisory for clients across the aerospace industry. Mike also oversees AeroDynamic’s aftermarket-related intellectual property that spans several segments, including airline fleet plans, aircraft retirements and used/serviceable material, distribution, interior retrofits, parts and labor escalation trends, and freighter conversions. He is a frequent guest speaker at industry conferences, universities, and company events, and also serves on the board of the Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (AIAM).

Stephen McDonnell
Head of Technical Transactions, Asia Pacific and Middle East
Avolon

As Head of Technical Transactions, Asia-Pacific & Middle East for Avolon, Stephen leads a team of technical executives with responsibility for all maintenance, aircraft transition and deal management for a fleet of over 350 aircraft leased to over 70 Airline customers. With a background in powerplant engineering, Stephen has held Leasing, Airline and MRO roles over 20 years in Aviation.

About the Speakers

Jongseok (Jason) Yoo
Executive Vice President, Chief Safety & Operating Officer
Korean Air

Jongseok (Jason) Yoo is Executive Vice President and Chief Safety & Operating Officer at Korean Air. He is responsible for the airline’s day-to-day flight operations and safety, overseeing Aviation Safety & Security, Flight Operations, Operations Control, Maintenance & Engineering, Information Protection & Security, Occupational Safety & Health, Procurement, and Environment & Facilities Divisions. Jason also led post-COVID recovery operations as Korean Air prepared for a full-fledged operation after the pandemic.      

Prior to his current position, Jason took on the role as CEO of the airline’s ground handling subsidiary, Korea Airport Service, for two years from 2019 to January 2022. He was also seconded to the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games, where he served as a technical advisor to the committee’s chairman from 2016 to 2017.

Jason joined Korean Air in 1986 as an engineer, and gained extensive experience working in various divisions from maintenance & engineering, procurement, environment & facilities to human resource management.

Promoted to Vice President in 2007, Jason led the Maintenance Planning Department from 2008 to 2010 and the Procurement Department from 2010 to 2011. In 2012, he was promoted to Senior Vice President and Director of Korean Air’s Engine Maintenance Center, where he served for three years before being appointed Deputy Chief of the Maintenance & Engineering Division in 2015.

From 2018 to 2019, he served as Chief of the Procurement Department and the Environment & Facilities Department. In this role, Jason led procurement plans and strategies for the airline’s resources and services. He also oversaw the company’s sustainability programs and construction projects. 

Jason graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Seoul National University, and earned his MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management in 2005. He is married with one son.

Chuanren Chen
S.E Asia and China Correspondent, Air Transport World Correspondent
Aviation Week Network

Chen Chuanren is the Southeast Asia and China Editor for the Aviation Week Network’s (AWN) Air Transport World (ATW) and the Asia-Pacific Defense Correspondent for AWN, joining the team in 2017.

Prior joining AWN, Chuanren was a regular serviceman in the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Air Defense and Operations Command. He now serves the RSAF Air Force Information Center as a reservist. He holds a Bachelor of Mass Communications as well as a Diploma in Mechatronics (Aerospace).
